Mountain Biking
In 1966 China
and Pakistan started the
construction of a route, which goes through the highest mountains of the world,
between the Pamir and Karakoram mountain
ridges one of the biggest engineering projects in history. (Until 1966, there
were sections on this route only accessible by mule ort horses, sections of the
ancient “silk route ”) is fascinating to ride with the mountain bike on
theKarakoram highway and discover the great variety of cultures and ethnic
groups, which have been passing and leaving unerasable marks through the last
2300 years. The great quantity of valleys, offers the possibility to enjoy
diverse and uncountable types of landscapes. When traveling through this route
one has the feeling that is traveling through dozens of countries.
BIKING
ON THE ROOF OF THE WORLD
These thrilling Trips on mountain bikes cover most parts
of Pakistan’s
Northern Areas traveling on both metalled roads and mountain jeep-trails. All
the routes are interesting and picturesque while some of them involve crossing
high mountain passes and jeep-tracks which wind across the valleys and
mountains. Omar travels have prepared exciting itineraries for these novel
trips. Our support vehicles accompany these groups to provide food and tents,
to carry extra bicycles and to deal with emergencies.
This wonderful biking adventure provides an excellent
opportunity for those who like cycling as a sport. You would see unspoiled
natural beauty and unique culture of the silk route. You would experience the
scenic beauty and rich culture of Swat valley, the Splendor of the Indus River
and the high peaks like Nanaga Parbat (8126 m) and Rakaposhi (7788 m). The
climax of this adventure is Kuhunjerab pass where you would start rolling down
to Islamabad.
The Hunza
Valley offer a wide
variety of mountain scenery and includes such giants as Ultar, Spantick, Diran
and the 7788 meter high Rakaposhi. It is a valley of enormous glaciers, which
tumble right down to the roadside and of tiny villages and their carefully
terraced and irrigated fields, which cling, precariously to the valley sides.
The barren upland plateau of the Pamirs, which the Kunjerab
Pass straddles eventually gives way to
the fertile fields and apricot orchards that have made the Hunza Valley
world famous. This great diversity of landscape is the Key to the appeal of
this mountain bike tour, and is the reason why we say the at the upper part of
the Omar Travels offers some of the most rewarding mountain biking of anywhere in
the Greater Himalayan Range.
